A story on ABC News about the increased importance of the votes being cast late in the primary process – in states like New York earlier this month and Indiana next Tuesday – quotes James Campbell, UB Distinguished Professor of Political Science, who said the “very crowded” Republican field has played a part. “Supporters of the other candidates in the crowded field were likely to cling to their favored candidate longer than usual because they regarded a move to the front-runner unacceptable,” he said. “In effect, this limited any bandwagon effect that we might have otherwise seen for a more broadly acceptable front-runner.” Stories appeared in news outlets around the nation, including WABC-TV in New York City, WADK-TV in Rhode Island, WPVI-TV in Philadelphia and KWBE-TV in Nebraska.
